Reports

What Are Reports?

Reports are a means for organizations to quantify how their participants are using Kindling.

selecting a report

To view the currently available reports, click the menu button in the top menu and select “Reports”. Each report can be viewed either in-browser, by selecting “View”, or can be exported as a comma-separated values file (.csv), by selecting “Export”. Files with the .csv extension can be opened in any standard spreadsheet application.

Which Users Have Access to Which Reports?

By default, Administrators have access to all reports for all Categories and Campaigns, and Moderators have access to a smaller set of reports only for the Categories and Campaigns of which they are Moderators.

The Moderator-level reports are:

  • Category/Campaign Details
  • Engagement by Category/Campaign
  • Idea Details
  • Idea Comments
  • Idea Workflow History
  • Idea Workflow Summary
  • Idea Workflow Details

Moderators will have access to these reports for the Categories and Campaigns they moderate but not any Category or Campaign they have access to as a standard User.

If the setting “Enable Certain Reports for all Users” is selected, all Kindling participants will gain access to the following reports for any Categories and Campaigns available to them:

  • Category/Campaign Details
  • Idea Details
  • Idea Workflow Details
  • Idea Workflow Summary
  • Idea Workflow History

Administrators have access to the following additional reports:

  • Engagement by User
  • Engagement by Date
  • Moderation by User
  • Moderation by Date
  • Expert Workload
  • User Details
  • Masked Ideas
  • Keyword Usage
  • Removed Entities

How Do I Grant Normal Users Access to Reports?

As an administrator, open Application Settings and select Content, then check the box labeled “Enable Certain Reports for all Users”. All Users in Kindling will then gain access to the following reports for all Categories and Campaigns available to them: Category Details, Idea Details, Idea Workflow Details, Idea Workflow Summary, and Idea Workflow History.

What If I’m Having Trouble Exporting Reports?

The .csv files that Kindling produces are encoded in the UTF-8 format, which Excel for Mac doesn't interpret correctly, resulting in extraneous characters appearing in cells.

Depending on the version of Excel in question, importing the file, as opposed to simply opening it, and selecting as a source "Unicode 5.1" (or similar), will generally open the file without problem. That should properly deal with the extraneous characters.

You can also try opening the .csv in a more Unicode-aware editor, such as Google Docs or Open Office, and then saving it an .xls file that Excel for Mac will open correctly.

What If I Have an Idea for a Report I Don’t See Here?

The Kindling API can be used to generate highly-detailed JSON responses for subsequent examination in the application of your choice.
